Ago Huskic- “No one is stopping me from being the next MCC lightweight champion”

MCC: Ago, congrats on your win at MCC 62 and elevating your MMA record to a perfect 3-0! How was it to headline your first show as the main event?

Ago: Headlining an MCC event is a huge accomplishment for any fighter in the Midwest. I see that it has taken Michael McBride, Elvis Mutapcic, and Johnny Case to the next level and I have no doubt that I am next. I’m very thankful to be headlining once again for MCC 63: Winter War!

MCC: How has training in the winter months been going?

Ago: I feel awesome and I am ready to fight NOW! Training can’t keep up with me.

MCC: Great to hear because you will be facing Anthony Baccam, a well-rounded / highly skilled fighter training out of Elite Edge, one of the best MMA gyms in the Midwest, how do you see this fight going?

Ago: Yeah he trains out of Elite Edge, but I’m Anthony Baccam’s toughest opponent, and once I beat him I’ll have beat every Featherweight & Lightweight who trains there. No one is stopping me from becoming the next MCC lightweight champion.

MCC: That is right, we are offering the winner of your bout a title shot vs Demi Deed’s the following event, what are your thoughts?

Ago: It’s not tough to look past my Baccam, because I already see myself holding the title belt. I will meet Deed’s in the cage next, we have unsettled business.

MCC: Right on sir! Thanks for taking the time and best of luck to you on your upcoming bout with Anthony and obtaining your goals in 2017! Would you like to give any shout outs?

Ago: Yeah, S/O to my future employer Dana white and the UFC, please feed me Micky Gall! 4-0 vs 4-0!

MCC 62: The Return | Winners Circle

Steven “The Surgeon” Merrill discusses his pro debut vs Allyn Case – “Knees and elbows to the head will open up my style immensely”

  • MCC: What’s up Steven! You excited to make your pro MMA debut at MCC 62 this Saturday, October 22nd?

SM: I couldn’t be more excited for this fight, yet somehow I am kind of calm. I’m really excited for the longer rounds and the new rules set. Knees and elbows to the head will open up my style immensely.

  • MCC: You’re not only making your pro debut…you are also making your MCC debut versus a well known MCC fighter, Allyn Case! For those who don’t know you, why don’t you give them a little about your ammy background and your MMA qualifications?

SM: For sure! I had my first ammy fight for Brutaal Genesis back in 2009 against an experienced kid with several fights on his record and I knocked him out from back-mount in 45 seconds! I found Master Justin Faiferlick a year and a half ago and began training extensively with him. Since I’ve been with Master Faiferlick, I have gone 1-1 in my last two contests by submitting previously unbeaten Santana Acosta via a RNC in 1 minute and 30 seconds into the 1st round. I then lost my last fight on Aug. 6th against 3X state wrestling qualifier, Dylan Forkner. As far as Allyn, we’ve actually been lined up to fight earlier on in our careers but for some reason it just never came to fruition.

  • MCC: You are fighting Allyn Case, what do you know about him and how do you envision this fight going?

SM: I know Allyn is very solid with his crisp kickboxing skills, and is also a pretty good wrestler with a respectable ground game. I see myself pushing the pace in this fight, attacking with knees, elbows, and looking to get a hold of him to initiate grappling exchanges. I envision pressuring Allyn into making a mistake and defeating him via submission or taking dominant position and having the ref stop the fight due to strikes.

  • MCC: What motivates you and what are some of the goals you’d like to achieve?

SM: I’m motivated by the people I care about and the people who care for and take care of me so that I’m able to make a run in this crazy fight game.

  • MCC: What is the difference between the normal everyday Steven Merrill versus the fighter Steven Merrill?

SM: The everyday me and the fighter me are no different. I am always aware, calculated, ever thinking and evolving, you could even say I am “surgical” in life (*wink*).

  • MCC: I see what you did there “Surgeon”. Thanks so much for taking the time to answer some questions Steven and thanks for letting MCC learn about you as a person and as a fighter! We are very excited to see you perform in only a few more days! Is there anyone who you would like to thank?

SM: Yes, absolutely! I want to thank my mother and my father definitely, my first coach Jason Pochinzsky for helping me get motivated and into fight shape, of course my coach Master Justin Faiferlick for being so much more than just a guy in my corner, all my training partners at the gym for working me over every week, and most importantly I want to thank the one person who I’ve spent the last 4 years with and has been along for this ride, my beautiful girlfriend and eventual wife, Jordan Mott.
